Political Affiliations and Other Change

Life has brought me a lot of changes over the last two years.

As I stated in one of my earliest blog entries, my political affiliation is “Democrat”.  I am, in fact, still a registered Democrat in my home state of Kansas.

Over the past couple of years, being a Democrat has become harder and harder.  In fact, being associated with any political party has become harder and harder and now, I find myself in a strange position.

I am not a Democrat any more.  This doesn’t mean that I do not stand by my decisions of the past made as a Democrat or my service to the Democratic Party when I was an election judge in Texas.  It just means that Change happened.

A couple of years ago I took one of those tests that showed you your political orientation on a grid.  My orientation was decidedly and profoundly liberal, but it was also decidedly and profoundly Libertarian.

Recently I took the same test again.  And again, there I was a Liberal Libertarian. So I decided to embrace the label.

Liberal Libertarian – to some an oxymoron – and others, just a moron. Don’t care – there is where I will make my stand – over in that strange corner of the political grid, with the likes of The Dalai Lama and Nelson Mandela – not bad company, even if I do say so myself.

Well, my friends, the term “libertarian” is really taking a beating these days and I am not willing to lend credence to any of the so-called “libertarian’s” running their traps lately.  So I am just going to shorten my designation to “liberal” and add that I realize that not everything the liberals want can be had and not everything the conservatives want to eliminate can be eliminated.  Still sitting between the Dalai Lama and Nelson Mandela … just being prudent about the word association.
